Court. I will earnestly seek to live up to the great trust that a seat on the
Court demands, with fidelity to the traditions of the Supreme Court and the
principles of the Constitution." On August 28, 1962, Associate Justice of
the Supreme Court Felix Frankfurter retired. President Kennedy nominated
Secretary of Labor Arthur J. Goldberg to succeed him. Goldberg, confirmed by
voice vote of the U.S. Senate on September 28, 1962, took his seat on the
Supreme Court three days later, on October 1, 1962. Fine
condition.
