letterhead of the U.S. Supreme Court to Mrs. Millard Fleischer, Washington, D.C.
Accompanied by original mailing envelope. Begins: "Dear
Sophia". In full: "I have decided to return the pin with my thanks
and appreciation to both you and Millard for the trouble you have gone to in
having it sent down. It is a beautiful pin but I need a grand occasion to
present it. Therefore, I may trouble Millard again at some future and more
appropriate time. Thank you very much." Arthur Joseph Goldberg (1908-1990)
served as JFK's Secretary of Labor from 1961-1962. Appointed by Kennedy
on October 1, 1962 to succeed retiring Justice Felix Frankfurter, Goldberg
served as an Associate Justice until 1965, when he resigned to succeed
the late Adlai E. Stevenson as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Goldberg was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1978. Folds,
