Printed Syllabus signed: "Byron R. White" on the cover, 32p, 6x9. Syllabus of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of "Pulley, Warden v. Harris", argued November 7, 1983, decided January 23, 1984. Robert Harris had been found guilty of murdering two teenage boys, stealing their car and attempting to rob a bank. He "was sentenced to death and the California Supreme Court affirmed, rejecting the claim that California's capital punishment statute was invalid under the Federal Constitution because it failed to require the California Supreme Court to compare respondent's sentence with sentences imposed on similar capital cases...." The court by a 7-to-2 vote sent the case back to California for further consideration. Justice White wrote the opinion of the Court. Appointed by John F. Kennedy on April 16, 1962, Byron R. White served as Associate Justice until he retired on June 28, 1993. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
