DAVID SOUTER Signed 4x6 photo on a 6x9 sheet, wearing a suit and tie Photograph signed: "David Souter". B/w, 6x9 overall, image 4¼x5¾ (one surface). David Souter (born in 1939), previously New Hampshire's Attorney General (1976-1978) and then a state and federal judge, was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by President George Bush in 1990.  Confounding expectations, Souter has usually voted with the Court's "liberal" wing, in company with Justices Stevens, Ginsberg and Breyer. He voted with this minority in Bush v Gore (2000), and was said to be so upset by the 5-4 vote to halt the recount of Presidential votes in Florida that he considered resigning from the Court. He announced his decision to retire at the end of the Supreme Court session, June 2009. Paperclip impressions at blank left margin. Lightly creased, but heavily so at blank right margin.
