ASSOCIATE JUSTICE DAVID H. SOUTER - SUPREME COURT CARD SIGNED - HFSID 287103
Price: $200.00
DAVID SOUTER
Supreme Court Card signed by the Associate Justice appointed by
President Bush in 1990.
Supreme Court Card signed: "David Souter", 5x3½. Imprinted
at upper margin: "Supreme Court of the United States/Washington, D.C.
20543/Chambers of/Justice David H. Souter". David Souter (born in 1939),
previously New Hampshire's Attorney General (1976-1978) and then a state and
federal judge, was appointed Associate Justice by President George Bush
in 1990. Confounding expectations, Souter has usually voted with the Court's
"liberal" wing, in company with Justices Stevens, Ginsberg and Breyer. He
voted with this minority in Bush v Gore (2000), and was said to be so upset by
the 5-4 vote to halt the recount of Presidential votes in Florida that he
considered resigning from the Court. Souter, a lifelong bachelor, owns no cell
phone, answering machine or television set, writes with a fountain pen and never
uses email. He announced his decision to retire at the end of the Supreme Court
session, June 2009. Fine condition.
