The future Supreme Court Associate Justice updates his entry for an upcoming edition of Who's Who in America.
Partly Printed Document Signed: "Felix Frankfurter" as Professor of Law, 4p, 5¾x9¼, conjoined leaves. Headed: "Who's Who in America". Date stamp of March 14, 1917 at lower margin. Frankfurter filled in requested information in black ink; several corrections and additions (unknown hand) in red ink. The information filled in includes his Chief Occupation or Profession ("Lawyer"), Residence Address ("Cambridge, Mass"), Place of Birth ("Vienna, Austria"), Date of Birth ("Nov. 15, 1882"), and his father's and mother's name on front, which bears the notation that he was "brought to U.S., 1894". On second page, Frankfurter has detailed his Military, Political and Civic Record and listed his Professional Associations, and he has listed his Business or Professional Record on the third page. On the last page, under "Books", Frankfurter has listed his 1915 book, Cases under Interstate Commerce Act", which was published by the Harvard University Press. Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965), who would serve as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1939-1962, was a member of the Harvard Law School faculty from 1914-1939. His liberal reputation was derived from his many involvements: Frankfurter helped found the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920, and he actively supported the Zionist movement and labor unions. Frankfurter also served as advisor to President Woodrow Wilson at the Paris Peace Conference (1919) and advised Franklin D. Roosevelt during both his governorship and presidency. FDR appointed Frankfurter to the Supreme Court in 1939. While on the Court, Frankfurter emphasized the Court's function to base all opinions on constitutional law rather than personal opinion. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. One-inch separation at lower blank margin at mid-vertical fold. Minor show through of writing. Ink notes (unknown hand) to left of "Who's Who in America" heading. Blue pencil notes (unknown hand) at upper margin of first page. Large blue check mark touches some writing (all legible) on front page, which also has two smaller blue check marks at upper portion. Blue mark through writing on last page (all completely legible). Otherwise, fine condition.
