ASSOCIATE JUSTICE HARRY A. BLACKMUN - BOOK PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED 2/1990 - HFSID 274390

HARRY A. BLACKMUN
Black and white book photograph of Harry A. Blackmun in a shirt and tie wearing his robe for the U.S. Supreme Court.
Book Photograph signed: "Harry A. Blackmun/February 1990." as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. B/w, 6x9 overall, image 4¼x5½ (one surface). Harry A. Blackmun (1908-1999), appointed by President Nixon in 1970, served until he retired in 1994. He was initially allied with the conservatives on the Court, but is best remembered for his 1973 majority opinion in Roe v. Wade, legalizing abortion. In March, 2004, Blackmun's papers collected at the Library of Congress were opened for public view: 1,576 boxes of papers and 38 hours of oral history. The papers, and particularly the videotapes, are providing candid looks behind the scenes at the Court's deliberations. Lightly creased with fold, mid-vertical fold touches the "u" of February and facial image. Overall, fine condition.
