ASSOCIATE JUSTICE HUGO L. BLACK - AUTOGRAPH - HFSID 283145
Price: $180.00
HUGO L. BLACK
Card signed by Supreme Court Justice in black ink
Signature: "Hugo L. Black". 3¾x2¼ card. Black
(1886-1971), formerly a member of the Ku Klux Klan, served as Democratic
Senator from Alabama (1927-1937) before being appointed to the Supreme
Court by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, serving from 1937 to 1971. On the
Court his judicial opinions supported President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New
Deal economic and social legislation. Later he became noted for his defense of
the Bill of Rights as an absolute guarantee of personal rights. These
philosophies were a far cry from his conservative days as a Klan member. Lightly
toned, soiled and bowed. Otherwise, fine condition.
