BRADLEY, appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by Grant in 1870, served until his death in 1892. HARLAN, appointed by Hayes in 1877, served until his death in 1911. EARL ENGLISH (1824-1893) was actively engaged during the Mexican War on the Pacific coast in Mexico and California. He also served throughout the Civil War. English was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1884 at which time he resigned the office of Chief of the Bureau of Equipment and Recruiting which he had held for six years.
