Signed First Day Cover in a Vignettes of Americana series
First Day Cover signed: "John Paul Stevens", 6½x3¾. FDC in a Vignettes of Americana series, with 13-cent stamp featuring Independence Hall and the 13-star flag, postmarked Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 15, 1975, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. John Paul Stevens (b. 1920) was nominated by President Ford and was sworn in as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court on December 19, 1975 (the year this stamp was issued). He established a moderately liberal voting record that made him seem even more liberal against more recent conservative appointees and has been a strong defender of civil rights, gay rights and First Amendment rights. Signature lightly beaded but legible. Typed note on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
