Signed 4 days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, in full: "I have your letter of December 1st. I wish I could agree to deliver the commencement address at Drexel Institute on June 15th. My plans are so uncertain for that period that I am unable to accept any speaking engagement for that time. I am sorry. With personal regards, I am Yours sincerely." Roberts (1875-1955) was Special Counsel for the United States in prosecuting the oil cases involved in the Teapot Dome Scandal in 1924. Appointed by Herbert Hoover in 1930, Roberts served as Associate Justice until he retired in 1945. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
