PIERCE BUTLER. Short ANS: "Pierce Butler" as Associate Justice at the lower margin of an ALS: "E.K. Tyler", 1p, 7¼x10¼. Birmingham, Alabama, 1937 November 21. Tyler had requested Butler to sign a postage stamp for his son but forgot to enclose the stamp so he received only an autographed card. On November 23, 1937, Butler replies,in full: "I am sorry not to have given adequate attention to your earlier letter. My best wishes to your boy." Appointed by President Harding in 1922, Butler served as Associate Justice until his death in 1939. Lightly creased. Folds do not touch Pierce's signature. Fine condition.
