NELSON, President Tyler's only appointee, served from 1845-1872. CLIFFORD, Buchanan's only appointee, served from 1858-1881. STRONG was appointed by Grant in 1870 and served until 1880. MILLER, appointed by Lincoln in 1862, served from 1862-1890. FIELD, brother of financier Cyrus W. Field, was Lincoln's last appointee, serving from 1863-1897. DAVIS, who helped secure his friend Lincoln's presidential nomination in 1860, was appointed by Lincoln in 1862; he resigned in 1877 to become a U.S. Senator. BRADLEY, appointed by Grant in 1870, served until 1892. All seven Associate Justices served together on the Supreme Court from 1870-1872, and each has written his position on the Supreme Court beneath his signature. Irregular left edge where removed from bound book, browned at edges. Erased pencil notations at blank margin under each man's position. Overall, fine condition.
