of the Bill of Rights, 5-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Miami Beach, Florida,
July 1, 1966 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Stanley Reed was U.S. Solicitor General
(1935-1938) and presented the government arguments in numerous New Deal cases.
Appointed to the Supreme Court by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in
1938, Reed was considered a moderate and often held the balance between the
liberal and the conservative members of the Court in split decisions. He retired
in 1957. Lightly creased. Ink is slightly smudged.
