wishes of/Tom C. Clark/7-23-45", 5x3 Affixed to a 8½x11 page with printed
letterhead of the Attorney General, along with a typed caption and a newspaper
photo of Clark captioned "New Attorney General." Special Assistant in the
Justice Department (1937-1943) and Assistant Attorney General
(1943-1945) under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Tom C. Clark
(1899-1977) was appointed Attorney General in 1945 and
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1949 by President Harry
S Truman.When his son, Ramsey, was appointed Attorney General by
President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1967, Clark resigned as Associate Justice
to avoid any possible conflict of interest. From the private collection
of Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009). Ward, a fighter pilot and
squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II, went on to
become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics
