Autograph note signed: "For Wm St. C./Hamilton with
best/wishes/8-31-45 Tom C. Clark" as Attorney General, 3½x2½. Special
Assistant in the Justice Department (1937-1943) and Assistant Attorney General
(1943-1945) under FDR, Clark (1899-1977) was appointed Attorney General by
Truman in 1945 and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1949. When his
son Ramsey was appointed Attorney General by LBJ in 1967, Tom C. Clark resigned
as Associate Justice to avoid any possible conflict of interest. President
Wilson signed into law the bill creating the Federal Trade Commission in 1914.
