Typed Letter signed: "Tom C Clark" as Truman's Attorney General, 1p, 7x9. Washington, 1946 May 21. To Judge Ewin L. Davis, Federal Trade Commission, Washington, D.C. In full: "I have received a copy of your address before the Harvard Law School on May 10, on Cartels and Trust and am greatly impressed by your handling on the subject. Congratulations upon a very scholarly job! With kind personal regards, Sincerely," Special Assistant in the Justice Department (1937-1943) and Assistant Attorney General (1943-1945) under FDR, Clark was appointed Attorney General by Truman in 1945 and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1949. When his son Ramsey was appointed Attorney General by LBJ in 1967, Tom C. Clark resigned as Associate Justice to avoid any possible conflict of interest. Mailing fold through center. Slightly creased and toned. Fine condition.
