of his Asheville speech.

Attorney General, 1p, 7x9. Washington, 1944 October 16. To Judge
Isaac M. Meekins, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina,
Elizabeth City, N.C. In full: "Many thanks for the copies of your
Asheville speech. I am enjoying it all over again and have difficulty in holding
on to a copy. Best regards and the best of luck." Handwritten
postscript: "P.S. I am stealing some of your 'pens'-They go over
nicely". Special Assistant in the Justice Department (1937-1943) and
Assistant Attorney General (1943-1945) under FDR, Clark was appointed
Attorney General by Truman in 1945 and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in
1949. When his son Ramsey was appointed Attorney General by LBJ in 1967, Tom
C. Clark resigned as Associate Justice to avoid any possible conflict of
interest. Light, tack head-size soil mark below signature. Fine
condition.
