Price: $380.00
WILLIAM J. BRENNAN, JR
William J. Brennan, Jr. sends a typed letter returning the engravings
that were sent to him.
TLS: "Wm J Brennan Jr" as Associate Justice, ¼p, 8½x11.
Washington, D.C., 1988 November 17. On his Supreme Court letterhead to
The Honorable Dean A. Gallo, Congress of the United States, Washington, D.C.
In full: "I am happy to return, duly autographed, the two engravings
sent on behalf of Ms. Catherine Stratford and enclosed in your letter of
November 10." Engravings not present. WILLIAM J. BRENNAN, JR.
(1906-1997), appointed Associate Justice by President Eisenhower, served
from October 6, 1956 until his retirement on July 20, 1990. He believed that
only by making the Constitution a "living document" could America's
system of government keep up with the needs of society -- in direct opposition
to the "strict constructionist" approach of conservative colleagues such as
Justices Rehnquist and Scalia. DEAN ANDERSON GALLO (1935-1994) was a
Republican Congressman from New Jersey from 1985-1994. A former member of the
New Jersey General Assembly from 1976-1984, Gallo had been re-nominated for
Congress in 1994, but resigned on August 29. He died just over two months later,
on November 6, 1994. Lightly creased at upper blank margin and lower right
corner. Slightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
