for $150.00, endorsed on verso. In his days as a practicing attorney, William
R. Day (1849-1923) served as a legal and political advisor to William
McKinley-after his election to the Presidency he appointed Day to Assistant
Secretary of State (1897-1898). As Secretary of State (1898), he
disagreed with the terms advocated by President McKinley for ending the Spanish-
American War but he negotiated them and then led the US Peace Commission and
signed the Treaty of Pairs. Upon his return, McKinley appointed him to
the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals (1899-1903). Theodore Roosevelt
appointed Day to The United States Supreme Court (1903-1922). Creased and
soiled. Ink processing stamp on face-affecting signature. Left side torn
irregularly. Multiple ink processing stamps on verso. Corners slightly worn.
Multiple folds. Ink stains across face. Otherwise, fine
condition.
