Autograph Letter signed: "Aubrey", 2 pages, 8½x11 (front and verso). New York, N.Y., 1956 December 27. To "My Dear Allison", in full: "Thank you so much for your card and greetings - also the enclosure. I am so very sorry not to be able to get to Princeton on Saturday for your soirée - but I greatly appreciate the invitation. You - I think - might be interested on my article on the Hero Dance Theatre in the enclosed copy of Dance and Dancers from London. [Item not included.] Do you ever come to N.Y.C? Why don't you let me know, ahead of time, if you are coming over. I would love to see you. With all good wishes for 1957. Always -" Typed caption below signature. Aubrey Hitchens (1906-1969), one of famed ballerina Anna Pavlova's last dance partners, was also among the first African-Americans to gain a worldwide reputation in the genre. His article cited in this letter was titled "Creating the Negro Dance Theatre." After retiring from the stage, Hitchens was an influential dance teacher.
