Printed Card signed in Ink: "August E. Johnson" in blue ink,
5x3 card. With printed text reading: "Autograph of:/August E. Johansen,/Member
of Congress, Third Michigan District,/1955-1957." August Edgar Johansen
(1905-1995) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A graduate of the
University of Chicago, Johansen was a minister in Illinois and Michigan from
1934 to 1944. He then worked as manager of industrial relations of the Kellogg
Co. in Battle Creek, Michigan (1934-1944), editorial writer for the Battle Creek
Enquirer News (1944-1948), editor of the Lakeview News and news editor on radio
(1944-1951) and as an administrative assistant to Representative Paul W. Shafer
(1951-1954). Johansen was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a
Republican from Michigan and served from January 3, 1955 to January 3, 1965.
