for March 6th. Extremely rare!

March 2, 1879. In full: "Dear Ms. Marsh, I shall have the greatest
pleasure in accepting your very kind invitation to dinner for Friday the 6th.
Yrs sincerely". Augustus J.C. Hare (1834-1904) was an English
author, primarily of biographies and a number of ghost stories. His family
was often the focus of his writings, with one of her first published works being
about his adoptive mother (Memorials of a Quiet Life). He wrote a
six volume biography of his own life, titled The Story of My Life.
While his biographical writings were very popular, they were sometimes regarded
as dull, with his ghost stories often drawing greater public attention. Hare
also wrote a number of travel books, compiling quite a few for published John
Murray. Fold down center. Slight surface creases. Top edge frayed. Toned.
Otherwise, fine condition.
