Fred Astaire's youngest child penned this letter and her signature regarding some
personal business in Dublin
Autograph Letter signed: "Ava M.", 1p. 5¼x7, personal letterhead. Accompanied by envelope,
postmarked Marina Del Rey, California, 1978 December 14, to Mr. George Penny,
Dublin, Ireland. In full: "Dear George- The enclosed check if for £40 - the extra of which I hope
will cover the cost of my shoe repair - & postage plus Helen's dress cleaning (about £2 I think) &
postage for it - I will send the dress as soon as she give it to me - but here is the shoe slip - I hope
they still have them! Don't think we'll be in Dublin before going to Calif. Leave here last week in
Nov. & fly to L.A. Dec. 1st - will be back in the late spring. - Much love to you & Lily from us
both." Ava Astaire McKenzie (b. 1942) is the daughter of Fred Astaire (1899-1987) and his
first wife Phyllis Potter. Of Fred Astaire's two children, Ava has been more active
promoting her father's heritage with various documentaries and shorts: Get Aboard! The
Band Wagon (2005), Easter Parade: On the Avenue (2005), and Astaire and Rogers: Partners
in Rhythm (2006). She is married to Richard McKenzie and divides her time between London
and Ireland. Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
