AVRIL ANGERS
Smiling photograph of the comedy actress who was known as "the Lucille Ball of the United Kingdom" with an autograph letter on verso.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "For Harry/David/Cooper/Always/Avril/Ayers" (one "A" is incorporated into all three lines). B/w, 3½x5½. On verso, ALS: "A.A." No place, no date. To "Dear Mr Cooper". In full: "Many thanks for your letter. It is good to know that you take such an interest. Best wishes". British actress and entertainer Avril Angers (1918-2005), the daughter of comedian Harry Angers, was one of the country's first female stand-up comediennes, and she became known as "the Lucille Ball of the United Kingdom". Angers, who began her career on the stage and became well known for her cabaret performances, made her film debut in 1949 (Skimpy in the Navy), and she was first seen on television in How Do You View? (1950-1951, 1953). Angers had her own TV series, Dear Dotty, beginning in 1954, and she would go on to appear on the small screen through 1997 (in the TV miniseries, Network First: Victoria and Albert). Minor surface creases and scratches (most not evident head on), some at writing and facial image. Overall, fine condition.
