Former U.S. Senator and Governor of Missouri, Benjamin Gratz Brown was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Vice President in 1872. When presidential nominee Horace Greeley died before the electoral college met, Brown and three others received Greeley's electoral votes for President. Brown received 18 electoral votes for President and 47 for Vice President. Mounted to a page of similar size. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled. Lightly nicked lower edges.
