5½x3½ image of the English character actor on an early TV picture tube. A rare signature.
Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Ballard Berkeley". B/w, 5½x3½. English character actor and occasional leading man Ballard Berkeley (1904-1988) starred in British films of the 1930s, including The Last Adventurers (1937). He appeared in the motivational In Which We Serve during World War II, and in Hitchcock's Stage Fright (1950). He was seen everywhere on British television, perhaps best remembered as Major Gowen on Fawlty Towers, but also seen on The Main Chance, Fresh Fields, and heard in the radio version of The Archers. He made a cameo appearance in National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985). Corners slightly creased. Edges lightly toned. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
