BARBARA BAXLEY
Rare signature of the Tony-nominated actress, inscribed to collector
Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Sincerely/Barbara
Baxley". B/w, 8x10. BARBARA BAXLEY (1923-1990) appeared on
television from the early 1950s through the mid-1980s, cast in six episodes of
Alfred Hitchcock Presents and both the original (1959) and later (1986)
versions of The Twilight Zone. She also appeared in feature films,
including the role of Sally Fields' mother in Norma Rae (1979). Her
first love was the theater, however. She made her Broadway debut in Noel
Coward's Private Lives (1948), and was nominated for a Tony in the
Tennessee Williams comedy Period of Adjustment (1961). Among her many
other visits to the Great White Way were Chekhov's Three Sisters, Neil
Simon's Plaza Suite and the 1963 musical She Loves Me. ). Saul
Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of
film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While
other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with
snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Edges toned.
Minor notches at right edge. Signature lightly beaded but legible. Otherwise,
fine condition.
