Inscribed Photograph Signed: "Best Wishes/Erin/Barbara Boxer",
B/w 8x10. Barbara Boxer (b. 1940) is a member of the Democratic Party as
well as a United States Senator from California. Her career experience has
ranged from stockbroking, journalism, and assisting, to serving in the U.S.
House of Representatives. In 1992, Boxer ran against Bruce Herschensohn for an
open seat in the United States Senate, and won. Boxer won again in 1998, 2004,
and 2010. At the time of her 2004 election, Boxer held the record for most
popular votes in any U.S. Senate election in history - receiving 6.96 million
votes. This remained the case until 2012, when Dianne Feinstein, the senior
Senator from California, broke the record. She is known for her support of
healthcare, even writing a bill to allow any American to purchase the same
healthcare program that members of Congress have. Since establishing the
Excellence in Education Award in 1997, she has awarded thirty-eight teachers,
businesses, parents, and organizations the award. Boxer is known for her role as
the chair of the Select Committee on Ethics, her role as the chair of the
Environment and Public Works Committee, and her role as the Democratic Chief
Deputy Whip. She is the only senator known to preside, simultaneously, over two
committees. Boxer is also known for her desire to protect the environment,
leading the Senate (in 2003) to block the oil drilling in the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge. She is also a proponent of marriage equality. Boxer has
appeared in a number of onscreen productions including cameo appearances in
Traffic (2000), Gilmore Girls (2002), and Curb
Your Enthusiasm (2007). Writing lightly bled through to verso.
