BARBARA BRITTON
B/w publicity photo of actor Barbara Britton in a jacket and scarf, signed with her "Best Wishes" in blue ink
Inscribed photograph signed "For/Madylon/Best wishes/Barbara Britton -" in blue ink. Black ink notations on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 7¾x9¾ overall, 7¼x9¼ image, one surface. Britton (1919-1980), born Barbara Brantingham, was an American stage, screen and television actress who is best known as for being Revlon's glamorous spokeswoman for 12 years, often selling the products live on such shows as the $64,000 Question. After signing with Paramount in 1941, Britton debuted in the Hopalong Cassidy film, Secret of the Wasteland, that year. Her other film credits include Reap the Wild Wind (1942), Wake Island (1942), So Proudly We Hail (1943), Till We Meet Again (1944), Captain Kidd (1945), The Untamed Breed (1948) and Ain't Misbehavin' (1955). Britton's biggest success on the small screen was in the role of Pamela North in the series, Mr. and Mrs. North (1952-1954), but she also appeared in several TV anthologies and had a recurring role on the daytime soap One Life to Live (1979 until her death). In 1960, Britton had created the role of Laura Petrie for a Carl Reiner TV pilot, Head of the Family; the sitcom debuted a year later as The Dick Van Dyke Show, with Mary Tyler Moore in the Laura Petrie role. Britton, who also appeared on Broadway (beginning in 1951), was also involved in local stage productions later in her career. Lightly toned, soiled and bowed. Signature has low contrast but is legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
