Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Barbara O'Neil/Greetings to/you Saul -". B/w, 8x10. Collector has ink stamped the signature date on verso: January 31, 1943. Barbara O'Neil (1910-1980), primarily a stage actress, made her film debut in Stella Dallas (1937). She received critical acclaim for her film performances opposite Charles Boyer in When Tomorrow Never Comes (1939) and All This and Heaven Too (1940), gaining an Oscar nomination for the latter role. Her best remembered role, however, was as Eileen O'Hara, Scarlett's mother in Gone with the Wind (1939). The last of her dozen Broadway roles was a starring on in Little Moon of Alba (1960). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs to sign in fountain pen, a rarity then. Goodman hoped his remarkable collection would remain in circulation, not gather dust in a library file. Light surface scratches. Lightly toned around edges. Corners lightly worn and creased.
Otherwise, fine condition.
