BARBI BENTON and GEORGE GRADOW Autograph Letter signed: "Barbi"
"and George", 1 page, 5¾x7¾. No place, 1984 November 29. On Barbi
Benton's personal letterhead, but written by her husband George Gradow to
actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller. In full: "You shouldn't have sprung
for an anniversary present as the invitation stated 'No Gifts.' But since all of
our names are engraved on that lovely bowl, we graciously accept it. There's a
class operation under that outrageous guise. Many thanks." A model, actress,
singer and composer, Barbi BENTON is perhaps best known for her long
relationship (1969-1976) with Hugh Hefner. Although never a "playmate",
Benton was a Playboy pin-up or cover girl in the early 1970s and in
1985 and recorded on the Playboy label. She had starring roles in some minor
films (Deathstalker, 1983). In 1979, Benton married George GRADOW,
a multi-millionaire from the mobile home industry. In August 2005, Gradow
entered into a plea agreement, accepting a 12-18 month federal prison sentence
for his role in destroying and altering documents during an IRS audit of his
corporation, The Churchill Group. Fine condition.
