BARCLAY TAGG
Signed color photo of thoroughbred trainer Barclay Tagg in the
winner's circle with Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness
Stakes
Photograph signed "Barclay Tagg". Black ink notations on verso
in unknown hand. Color, 9¾x7¾. According to notations on verso, Barclay is
shown with Funny Cide, a gelding that he trained and that won the 2003 Kentucky
Derby and Preakness Stakes. Tagg, born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1937,
is an American thoroughbred trainer. He started training horses in 1971 and
saddled his first winner, Tudor's Fancy, at the now-defunct Liberty Bell Park.
But what brought him fame was Funny Cide, who won the 2003 Kentucky Derby and
Preakness Stakes. Funny Cide was the first gelding to win the Derby since
1929 and the first New York-bred horse to ever win that race. Tagg also
trained promising horses like Nobiz Like Showbiz, who won the 2007 Holy
Bull Stakes and Wood Memorial Stakes and three stakes races on turf later that
year, and Tale of Ekati, winner of the 2007 Futurity Stakes at Belmont
Park; both horses ran in, but did not win, the Kentucky Derby. Lightly creased
and bowed, otherwise in fine condition.
