Autograph letter signed: "Barney" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear John - Thank you for bringing me up to date. This is the latest 8x10 [not included]. The latest credits is (Stage) are "You Can't Take It With You" at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. Great time I must say, and now previewing "Prelude to a Kiss" at Circle Rep. All good wishes always". Stage, screen and TV character actor Barnard Hughes (1915-2006) won the Tony Award for Best Actor for Da in 1978, five years after he had been nominated for a Tony for his performance in Much Ado About Nothing. Also the recipient of an Emmy Award for his portrayal of a senile judge in Lou Grant, Barnard appeared in a long list of feature films, including The Young Doctors (1961), Midnight Cowboy (1969), Oh, God! (1977), Tron (1983), Doc Hollywood (1991), Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993) and Cradle Will Rock (1999), numerous made-for-TV movies and several TV series, including Cannon (1971-1976), The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1978) and Doc (1975-1976). Normal mailing fold. Heavily stained in left margin. Light surface creases. Slightly toned. Corners worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
