BARNEY MILLER TV CAST: ABE VIGODA and HAL LINDEN The cast members signed this black and white promotional photo in black ink Photograph signed: "Hal Linden" and "Abe Vigoda" in black ink. B/w, 8x10. Barney Miller, the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning sitcom set in an urban police precinct headquarters, ran from 1975 to 1982. Linden starred in the title role, and Vigoda spent a few seasons as Sergeant Phil Fish before starring in a spin-off, Fish (1977-1978). Barney Miller earned two Golden Globes during its run. HAL LINDEN (b. 1931), best known as the title character in this series, began his performing career as a clarinetist and a vocalist. Linden first appeared on Broadway in The Bells Are Ringing in 1958, with several Broadway shows to follow, including On A Clear Day, You Can See Forever (1965-1966), Three Men on a Horse (1969-1970) and The Pajama Game (1973-1974). In 1971, Linden won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for The Rothschilds. He broke into TV on Car 54, Where Are You? (1963), and appeared in several made-for-TV movies before making movie debut in 1979. His film credits include I Do! I Do! (1984), The Colony (1995), Out to Sea (1997) and Time Changer (2002). Linden's work on the small screen includes hosting the Peabody Award-winning Animals, Animals, Animals (1976-1980), and "FYI" (his Emmy Award-winning daytime information spots on ABC). His TV guest appearances include Touched By An Angel, The Nanny, The Drew Carey Show, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Will & Grace (2004). Character actor ABE VIGODA (1921-2016), who has proven to be equally adept in both dramatic and comedic roles, is best known for playing Sergeant Phil Fish on Barney Miller (1974-1982) and short-lived spinoff series Fish (1977-1978). Vigoda, who made his first television appearance on Suspense in 1949, has since appeared as a guest star on a long list of TV series, from Mannix (in 1973) to Howard Stern (in 2005). He has also made a number of feature films, most notably appearing as Sal Tessio in The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather: Part II (1974). Vigoda reprised this role for a trilogy of Godfather video games released in 2006 and 2007. Still active as an actor into his nineties, Vigoda appeared in Sweet Destiny (2014) and an episode of High School USA! (in 2013). Until 1987, Vigoda could be seen intermittently on a Broadway stage. His last theatrical performance on one of those New York City stages was in a revival of Arsenic and Old Lace (1986-1987). For his role as Phil Fish in Barney Miller, Vigoda was nominated for three straight Primetime Emmys from 1976 to 1978. Vigoda has been playing old men since the 1970s, and skits summoning him from the dead have been featured by David Letterman and Conan O'Brien. These skits are even more apt considering two different instances of Vigoda's death being falsely reported, in 1982 and 1987. He passed away in 2016. Fine condition.
