BARON HARRY PILKINGTON The glass manufacturer who served as President of the Federation of British Industries pens his name on this slip of paper Signature: "Harry Pilkington" in blue ink, 5¾x4. Paper bears the letterhead of Pilkington's glass manufacturing business. Harry Pilkington (1905-1983) was a glass manufacturer who served as President of the Federation of British Industries. He is best remembered as the chairman of the Pilkington Committee, which was responsible for the controversial Pilkington Report of 1962. One of the most tenuous claims made in the report was that the British public was not interested in commercial radio broadcasting. Additionally, from 1966 to 1980, Pilkington functioned as chancellor of Loughborough University. He became a member of the illustrious British peerage in 1968, earning the title of Baron Pilkington. Irregularly cut. Lightly toned. Creasing, most of which is concentrated at the lower left-hand corner. Ink note from a previous collector toward bottom edge of slip of paper. Otherwise, fine condition.
