He signs a Document Fragment as Governor of New South Wales (1886).
Document Fragment signed: "Carrington" as Governor of New South Wales, 1 page, 7¼x2½ attached to 7¾x3 piece of paper (two surfaces). Government House, Sydney, New South Wales, 1886 May 4. "Given under my hand and seal ..." Robert Wynn Carrington (1843-1928) was a Liberal Member of the House of Commons (1865-1868), until he inherited from his father the title of Baron Carrington. He became an Earl in 1895, and that same year assumed to governorship of New South Wales, serving in that office until 1990. Returning to England, he was appointed to a succession of high government offices: Lord Chamberlain, President of the Board of Agriculture, Lord Privy Seal and Lord Great Chamberlain. He became Marquess of Lincolnshire in 1912. What are today the states of the Australian federation were ruled separately, each with a considerable degree of self government by with a Governor appointed by the British monarch, serving as head of state.
