Signature: "Cornwallis", slip folded to 5x2, stapled to 5x8 typed forwarding letter.
Accompanied by a typed forwarding letter on letterhead of Ashurst Park, Tunbridge Wells
(Kent, England), 1970 August 25, to Victor W. Croxford, Croydon, acknowledging receipt of
a letter and papers and forwarding the signature of Lord Cornwallis, who was out of England.
Wykeham Stanley Cornwallis (1892-1982) succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Cornwallis in
1935. A decorated World War I veteran wounded in France, Cornwallis was Chairman of
the Kent County Council (1935-1936). He was Pro-Chancellor of the University of Kent at
Canterbury (1960-1971) and Masonic Grand Master of Kent (1935-1973). Baron
Cornwallis is not a lineal descendant of the British General Cornwallis who surrendered to at
Yorktown. Fine condition.
