In full: "Your letter will remain with me forever - to remind me there are men out there whose thoughts and cares stand always above all else. My heart pours out thanks which my poor hand cannot record - But it's all there always". Barry Goldwater (1909-1998), U.S. Senator from Arizona (1953-1965, 1969-1987), was the unsuccessful Republican presidential candidate in 1964, losing to President Johnson. Being accused of extremism in his conservative views, he asserted: "Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF SENATOR DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York as a Democrat for four terms (1977-2001). A prolific author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Lightly soiled in blank upper portions. Pencil and ink notes (unknown hand) at top. Vertical ink stamp at left crosses but does not obscure four lines of writing. Otherwise, fine condition.
