BARRY GOLDWATER.
Hopes for re-election of a Democrat.
Typed Letter signed: "Barry", 1p, 8½x11. On personal letterhead. Scottsdale, Arizona, 1988 October 28. To Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Washington, D.C. In full: "Your [sic] running for reelection this year, and I just hope that you are reelected with no trouble. It was a real pleasure serving with you. The Senate is a better place for having had you. Sincerely." Barry Goldwater (1909-1998), U.S. Senator from Arizona (1953-1965, 1969-1987), was the unsuccessful Republican presidential candidate in 1964, losing to President Johnson. Being accused of extremism in his conservative views, he asserted: "Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF SENATOR DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York as a Democrat for four terms (1977-2001). A prolific author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Lightly creased. Ink note (unknown hand) in upper right. Number stamp in left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
