BARRY McGUIGAN
Belfast boxer who opposed sectarian violence.
Photograph signed: "Barry McGuigan". Color, 5¾x7½. Captioned in lower
margin. Born in the Irish Republic, Barry McGuigan did much of his fighting in
Belfast, Northern Ireland. A Catholic who married a Protestant and condemned
sectarian violence, he inspired the slogan, "Leave the fighting to Barry."
European featherweight champ from 1983 and WBA title holder 1985-1986,
McGuigan considered retirement after sending opponent Young Ali of Nigeria into
a terminal coma, but he decided to remain in the ring. He retired for good in
1989 with a record of 32-3, including 26 knockouts, and was enshrined in
the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2005. He has been a talk show
host and boxing commentator in Britain. Fine condition.
