Barry Nelson (1920-2007) earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for The Act (1978). Nelson also starred in three short-lived TV series in the 1950s, including Hudson's Bay. He is best known, however, for being the first actor to portray James Bond (in the 1954 television presentation of Casino Royale). Nelson played him as Jimmy Bond, an American, eight years before Sean Connery played James Bond in Dr. No (1962). He was also seen on the big screen as the hotel manager in The Shining (1980). Nelson served in the United States Army during WWII. He performed in many Broadway productions throughout his career, with his stage career beginning with Winged Victory, a United States Army Air Forces production from 1943-1944. Mailing crease.
