Autograph Letter Signed: “Barry” in bright purple ink on a 6½x8½ letter. One
page. Dated October 27. In Full: “Thank you for that / encouraging note. / It is a
subject I have / felt deeply about for a long time / I hope it will help some in giving
/ a bit of a challenge to the / traditional thinking on the subject. / Warmest
regards”. Barry Nelson (1920-2007) earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor
in a Musical for The Act (1978). He was also seen on the stage in The Moon is
Blue (1951), Mary, Mary (1964), Cactus Flower (1965), Seascape (1975) and
The Norman Conquests (1976). Nelson also starred in three short-lived TV
series in the 1950s, including Hudson's Bay. He is best known, however, for
being the first actor to portray James Bond (in the 1954 television
presentation of Casino Royale). Nelson played him as Jimmy Bond, an
American, eight years before Sean Connery played James Bond in Dr. No
(1962). He was also seen on the big screen as the hotel manager in The Shining
(1980). Nelson served in the United States Army during WWII. He performed
in many Broadway productions throughout his career, with his stage career
beginning with Winged Victory, a United States Army Air Forces production
from 1943-1944. Mailing crease. Paperclip impression and minor rust near top
