Signature: "Barry Tuckwell" in black ink. 1 page, 5½x3¼. Two unidentified signatures on verso merit further research. Barry Tuckwell (b. 1931) is an Australian horn player. Tuckwell studied piano, organ, and violin as a chorister at Sydney's St. Andrew's Cathedral before being introduced to the horn at the age of 13, and was playing professionally within six months. At the age of fifteen he was appointed to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, going on to play with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra before leaving for England, where he would spend the next several years with the Scottish National Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. The latter, he would spend thirteen years with simultaneously working on the Board of Directors and serving as its Chairman for six years. He resigned from the orchestra in 1968 to pursue a career as a soloist and conductor, which he would do for the next thirty years. Tuckwell has also wrote books on horn playing including Yehudi Menuhin Music Guides, Playing the Horn, and Fifty First Exercises, as well as has taught master classes in the U.S.'s Dartmouth College and Pomona College and the U.K.'s Royal Academy of Music. Right edge frayed. Light surface creases. Pencil notes in bottom margin. Slighlty soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
