BARTON MacLANE
Smiling head and shoulders image of the character actor, who traded
blows with Humphrey Bogart in two films
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To/Doris Randle/Barton MacLane".
B/w, 8x10. Barton MacLane (1902-1969) was cast as a
Quarterback in a silent film of that name (1924), mainly because he had
played the position at Wesleyan U. The role sparked his interest in acting.
Although he could play positive characters, such as the detective boyfriend
of Glenda Farrell in the Torchy Blane films of the late 1930s, he was at
his best as a villain. In The Maltese Falcon (1941) he beat up Humphrey
Bogart, who returned the favor in Treasure of the Sierra Madre
(1948). Mac Lane had a recurring TV role on The Outlaws (1960-1962),
and played General Peterson on the sitcom I Dream of Jeannie
(1965-1969). Top left corner heavily creased (not effecting signature).
Lightly bowed. Corners lightly worn. Edges toned at verso. Ink mark (unknown
hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
