Nobel Prize-winner in Medicine (1980), Baruj Benacerraf signs a short, typed
letter (1993).
TLS: "Baruj Benacerraf", 1 page, 8½x11. Boston, Mass., 1993 January
14. To Ms. Nora Zah, Albuquerque, N.M., sending her his autobiography (not
present). Benacerraf, who attained the Fabyan Chair of Comparative
Pathology at Harvard in 1970, was co-recipient of the 1980 Nobel Prize for
Physiology or Medicine with George Shell and Jean Dausset for discoveries
concerning the genetic regulation of the body's immune system. Benacerraf, a
Venezuelan-born scientist, who had joined the faculty of the New York School of
Medicine in 1956, was a professor in pathology there by 1960. From 1968-1970,
Benacerraf was the chief of the immunologic laboratory of the National Institute
of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health. Slightly
creased. Overall, fine condition.
