Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, and Tommy Byrne sign a Hillerich & Gradsby K-35 baseball bat that was actually used in Game Four of the 1950 World Series by Whitey Ford and was possibly turned expressly for him. This bat, imprinted with "World Series 1950 Pitchers New York Yankees", was inscribed by DiMaggio "To my good friend and teammate - Best Pitcher - With Warm Personal Regards". "Best Pitcher" was obviously Ford in his stellar 1950 rookie season. This bat highlights a sometimes neglected era in New York Yankees history - Ford's dominance on the mound near the end of DiMaggio's career - which is usually eclipsed by the start of Mickey Mantle's career. In part: "The Gillette Safety Razor Company and/or Maxon Incorporated…have my permission to use my name, address, photograph and/or likeness, together with the above statement…for any and all advertising purposes…for the period of one year from first public use…I shall not allow my name and/or photograph to be used in connection with competitive shaving products for the above period." Address: "East Island, Glen Cove, L.I." in another hand. Also signed: "Joan Crosby" as witness. This document most likely was attached to a statement by Campanella about Gillette shaving products. Three time MVP Roy Campanella (1921-1993) was the catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1948-1957. In January 1958, his career was cut short by an automobile accident that left him paralyzed. The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports was televised on NBC from 1948-1960. While the Friday night show always showed boxing matches, the remainder of the hour was filled with features such as "Great Moments in Sports" or "Red Barber's Corner".

On July 31, 1990, at Milwaukee's County Stadium, Texas Rangers right hander Nolan Ryan added to his list of legendary mound accomplishments by becoming the 20th pitcher in Major League history to record at least 300 wins during his career. Ryan worked seven and two-thirds innings that night, allowing one earned run and striking out eight. The tying runs were on base in a 5-3 game when Texas manager Bobby Valentine took Ryan out after he had thrown 146 pitches.
