5¾x7¾. No place, 1984 October 8. On personal letterhead, in full:
"I've been very lucky in the theatre, having had wonderful parts on
Broadway, New York, starting with replacing Wendy Hiller in 'The
Heiress', when I met my husband, Peter Cookson, winning a Tony for 'The
Crucible' by Arthur Miller, and many other fine parts. The part I loved most
was Blance Dubois in 'Streetcar Named Desire' by Tennessee Williams - he wrote
on so many levels. I played her in many summer theatres. Films and TV have been
interesting and challenging for other reasons." Beatrice Straight
(1914-2001) was a Broadway actress from 1935, winning a Tony for
The Crucible (1953). She earned an Oscar as Best Supporting
Actress for Network (1976). Another successful film role was that of
an overconfident investigator of the paranormal in Poltergeist (1982).
While working on the New York stage, she appeared in the Manhattan-based soap
opera Love of Life. She had roles in the TV series Beacon Hill
(1975), Wonder Woman (1976) and King's Crossing (1982), and played
Rose Kennedy in a 1985 television miniseries. Bottom right corner creased.
