Photograph signed: "Beau Jack". Rse-hued b/w, 9¾x8. Beau Jack
(1921-2000), known as "the Georgia shoe shine boy", was a former caddie
backed financially by golfing great Bobby Jones. He was recognized as
lightweight boxing champion in New York State only (1942-1944). A very
popular fighter, he staged a record 21 main events in Madison Square
Garden, including a 1944 fight which raised $35 million for War
Bonds. He was enshrined in the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991. Ink note
on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
