The legendary actors shake hands in still from their 1979
film
Printed photograph signed in ink: "Peace always/ Jack Warden"
in blue ink and "Melvyn Douglas" in black ink. B/w, 8x10. Still from the
1979 film Being There. In 1959, JACK WARDEN (1920-2006) appeared in
two feature films, The Sound and the Fury and That Kind of Woman,
and he was seen on TV as a guest star on Playhouse 90, Bonanza,
Five Fingers, The Lawless Years, The Twilight Zone and
The Untouchables. A former boxer, bouncer and lifeguard, Jack Warden
(1920-2006), born John Lebzelter, was a frequent screen presence for half a
century. He received Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominations for
Shampoo (1975) and Heaven Can Wait (1978). Other prominent
film roles include Twelve Angry Men (1957), Being There (1979) and
Bullets Over Broadway (1994). Warden, who won an Emmy Award for
the TV movie, Brian's Song (1969), also starred in several series,
including The Wackiest Ship in the Army (1965-1966), NYPD
(1967-1969), The Bad News Bears (1979-1980) and Crazy Like a Fox
(1984-1986). MELVYN DOUGLAS (1901-1981) won Academy Awards for Best
Supporting Actor for Being There (1979) and for his
portrayal of Paul Newman's dying father in Hud (1963). He was
nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for I Never Sang for My Father
(1970). Although Douglas (1901-1981) began his acting career on the stage, he
would grace the big screen for 50 years after making his film debut in
1931 in the early "talkie", Tonight or Never. His long list of feature
film credits include Annie Oakley (1935), Captains Courageous
(1937), Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948), The
Americanization of Emily (1964), The Graduate (1965), The
Seduction of Joe Tynan (1979) and Being There (1979). Douglas also
appeared in a number of made-for-TV films. He died at the age of 80, just before
the release of his final film, Ghost Story (1981). Corners slightly
rounded. Light surface creases. Faintly soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine
