BEN BARNES and CHARLES SCHNABEL This copy of a piece of legislation also copied their signatures Document Unsigned: 8½x11. One page. This is a copied document. It features a copy of each man's signature in the bottom right corner. BEN BARNES (b. 1938) is a businessman and politician who served as the Lieutenant Governor of Texas from 1969 to 1973. Unfortunately, his further ascent into Texas politics was cut short when the Sharpstown stock fraud scandal rocked Texas state government in the early 1970s. Frank Sharp sought to artificially inflate the value of his bank companies by providing loans to state officials, who would then use the money to purchase stock in his life insurance company. When he was Lieutenant Governor, many high officials were bribed to push through favorably legislation in the midst of the scandal. He did not face any criminal charges, however, and claimed he never know of the scheme. CHARLES SCHNABEL (b. 1932) served as the State of Texas Secretary of the State from 1955 to 1977. He went on to work as an assistant for Charlie Wilson, the man who spearheaded Operation Cyclone, from 1985 to 1991. Copy, unsigned. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
